Value of Time!

Value of Time!

Today we are going to do a little experiment. Before you start reading this blog, take a look at your watch or clock and note down the time that you see in there. It is 7:53 am here so I just noted that down. Now, put your watch away, don’t read any further, perhaps go take a walk or probably just sit and relax for 5 minutes and then come back to read this blog!

Welcome back! Assuming you followed this simple small experiment, you may be asking, why did we do this? Obviously, as the heading of the blog says, it is to understand the value of time. If you followed this little experiment and noted down the time earlier, go back and look at that time. In my case, it was 7:53 am on June 12, 2021. Now whether we think this experiment was crazy or not, one thing we all can agree upon is – that particular time which you noted down is never ever going to come back. You may be able to go through and experience multiple other 7:53 am morning times, however that particular 7:53 am of June 12, 2021 will only come once in your life time. Hence it is extremely important for us to not take time for granted and understand its importance and act accordingly.

Some words of wisdom on time and its value from my 12 year old:

You may think weekends is the time to do nothing and relax. It’s not wrong to think that you can relax on the weekends, however it is about wise time management along with incorporating relaxation and fun along with other meaningful activities you need to do. You may know of kids playing video games all weekend. Sure they can play their games on the weekend, but not the entire 48 hours.

Time is a very valuable resource, and it is considered nonrenewable. Time flows by every day and you never know which day will be your last, so you should take that time that you have on your hands to do something productive. Picture this: You have an exam or an interview on Monday, and you have to study during the weekend. Instead of studying, you decide to play video games. You intend to play for “only an hour” but before you know it, the whole day has passed. This is an example of how quickly time goes by. You had the whole day to do something productive, but instead, you wasted the whole day playing video games or just being lazy all day long doing nothing. You think you have another chance to do everything, you wasted a whole day and you’re okay with it. Whatever amount of time you waste, it’s never coming back. Hence, I suggest you make the most of the time you have. 🙂

Think about this:

A student that fails his/her final exam and does not move to the next grade, painfully understands the value of 1 year!

A mother who gives birth to a pre-mature baby understands the value of 1 month!

An athlete who wins a silver medal instead of gold in Olympics understands the value of 1 millisecond!

Allah SWT gave us Surah “Al-Asr” in the Holy Quran. It is the shortest Surah in the Quran which we all recite in almost every prayer every day. One lesson from that Surah is humanity is in loss as time keeps slipping through their hands.

No one has “forever time” on hands. I’ll warp-up this post by quoting a blog I read in another blog (can’t remember the name of the blog where I read this):

Time is like a river flowing. You cannot touch the same water twice because the flow that has passed will never pass again!

So don’t waste your time living someone else’s life or playing video games. Time is precious so use it wisely!
